What the PMP® exam actually looks like.
Knowing the shape of the exam takes some of the mystery out of the countdown. Here is the current format, refreshed for the exam PMI rolled out in July 2026 alongside the PMBOK® Guide — Eighth Edition: 180 scored and unscored questions, completed in a 4-hour (240-minute) window, offered in 15 languages at test centers or online.

Before You Enroll
Who can sit for the PMP® exam?
PMI sets eligibility based on your education background and how much time you have spent leading and directing projects. Most working professionals qualify through one of four paths.

High school diploma or GED
Roughly 5 years of project leadership experience

Associate’s degree or vocational diploma
Roughly 4 years of project leadership experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher
Roughly 3 years of project leadership experience

Graduate of a PMI-accredited (GAC) program
Roughly 2 years of project leadership experience
Plus 35 hours of project management education
Every path also requires 35 hours of project management training. The PMP® PDU Training and Exam Prep Program at 3T is built to satisfy this requirement while you prepare for the exam itself.
